Welcome Everyone to the
Rhossili Coastguard website. Rhossili Coastguard is a long established team
that is located on the south-west side of the Gower Peninsula. The site has
been created so that you, the audience, can have an insight into what we do
in the coastguards as many people believe that we just go out to sea and help
people that are in trouble but our duties are much more than that. The team
at Rhossili is a Search & Rescue, Cliff Team and our roles include:
- Coastal Search and
Rescue which includes cliff and search operations
- Surveillance,
communications and intelligence gathering
- On scene presence
and co-ordination when required by the rescue centre
- Reporting and
arranging the safeguarding of hazardous objects
- Public safety operations/assistance to civil authorities, e.g. searches
in remote areas
- Local liaison
and SAR prevention
- Assistance at
PR events
- Manning of remote
radio sites
- Service to
the local community
We at Rhossili Coastguard
are controlled by the MRCC in Mumbles, Swansea who are responsible for the calling
out of the Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRT's) in the bank of the River Tywi in
Carmarthenshire through to the upper reaches of the River Severn and around
to Marsland Mouth on the Devon Cornwall border. As the CRT's are all auxillary
teams in the Gower Sector it is sometimes required that additioanl emergency
service vehicles are called to assist the coastguards which may include the
SeaKing Helicopter right through to the local police.
